Katie and Adam’s elegant summer wedding is just beautiful. These two met over ten years ago at University, and were married last summer in Norfolk. On a sunny day, they celebrated their marriage with a beautiful church ceremony, and partied the night away in Hales Hall Great Barn.
The details in this wedding are divine. I’m especially in awe of the blooms and handmade – yes handmade bridesmaid dresses! The church is full of floral pretty, Katie’s bouquet is stunning and I’m loving that instead of bouquets the bridesmaids are all wearing corsages – all of these were made by Janita’s Flower Shop. Other highlights include gorgeous stationary designed by the bride, homemade gin favours and a spectacular pink explosion confetti shot.

The beautiful dress
I found my dress, Maggie Sottero‘s ‘Glenda’ in Maria Modes Bridal in Macclesfield with Adam’s mum & my sister-in-law, plus a facetime to my mum! I couldn’t face buying my dress without my mum being there in some way. I bought the dress 18 months before the wedding. The dress was perfect for the elegant look I was going for. The removable top is lace applique and the bottom a Chantilly lace A-line skirt. I wore the satin belt it came with for our ceremony but wore a sparkly belt for the evening.
On the day, I accessorised with a pearl bracelet owned by my mum. She had worn it on her wedding day, and my sister wore it on hers – so I carried on the tradition. My pearl earrings were a gift from Adam. We wanted to find a way to include our loved ones that couldn’t be with us; so I had a ring from Adam’s grandmother and a tie pin from my grandad tied to my bouquet.
Pink and grey elegant summer wedding
Pinterest became my obsession. We wanted our day to be timeless, so opted for an elegant summer wedding look. We decided on a muted colour palette of pink and grey and soon everything was based around that! One of my favourite grey details was beautiful bridesmaid dresses. They were handmade dresses, in a soft grey colour based on a Reem Acra design. I saw them on Pinterest and followed the link to an eBay site. The lady had made them for her daughters wedding, so I sent through everyone’s sizes and got them super quickly. It was so nice that they were unique, as they weren’t from the high street. The girls loved wearing them, although one of my bridesmaid did rip the front of her dress fighting for the bouquet… she was very determined!
I designed our own wedding invitations myself, and made a monogram which I used on everything, I practically branded the wedding! We also wanted to include little quirks to make it personal to us. Pinterest was great for this!
We’ve known Tatum Reid since she first started out as a wedding photographer. We’ve recommended her for friends’ weddings, and knew when we got engaged that we wanted no one else. She’s incredible at what she does, and all the photos from our day are wonderful.
Little Millie’s Cake Company made our beautiful cake based on a design I found on Pinterest. I initially fell in love with the beautiful ornate lace design. We found Little Mille’s when we visited a wedding show – after tasting their salted caramel cake we were sold!
Al Green, Let’s Stay Together was our first dance song. When Adam and I met he had this as his ringtone, and I used it as his ringtone for when he would call me. So it became our song!
For our reception, we booked The Joe Ringer Band. They were so much fun and had everyone dancing all night long.
I made our favours of sloe gin & blackberry vodka. All the blackberries were picked from Norfolk, and the sloes were from my mum’s back garden. I made the paper bows to go on the favours with my bridesmaids in a wedding sweatshop one day, we all loved it!
Words of wisdom
Enjoy all of it! I absolutely loved planning our wedding, just as much as the day itself. It is such a magical experience, and everything that comes with it brings you closer and is so much fun. I remember Adam & I looking into the barn when everyone sat down for the breakfast, everyone was so happy and having the best time, we were over the moon and so incredibly happy. Nothing will ever beat that feeling of everything coming together.
Get to know your suppliers – we can’t fault the expertise of Briony and her team at Hales Hall Barn. The venue speaks for itself and is breath-taking, but the team helped to make it the most magical day and so easy for us in the lead-up. Also, our parents were absolutely incredible – we couldn’t have put together the most amazing day without them.
We went to Japan for two weeks and travelled around. We started in Tokyo, then went onto the mountains in Hakone to stay in a traditional ryokan. After that, we took the bullet train down to Kyoto, then flew to the southern islands of Ishigaki for some much-needed relaxation. It was amazing, a trip of a lifetime!
